The Folk House
The Folk House came to Knifesmith to rework its website. An adult education centre in the heart of Bristol, the Folk House is a charity that houses a café, art exhibitions, and courses in everything from pottery to personal development.
Its website was quirky and eclectic, and the Folk House team wanted to retain something of the old look and the ‘spirit’ of the Folk House. It’s a busy, friendly place, so something stark and corporate would be wrong.
However the site was old and very basic, it had been added to over the years and wasn’t functioning efficiently. Too static, and not updated regularly, it wasn’t providing what potential visitors needed. For instance, it was tricky to find course information – one of the main reasons that people visited the site -consequently users were leaving frustrated.
Knifesmith worked with the team to unpick exactly what is was that the site needed to do.
Our brief was to create a website that contained all the information that site users might want to access, that was user-friendly, and easy to update.
The new site makes the most of all the information held by the Folk House. All course details are now available to potential visitors, via easy search routes. Persistent architecture and navigation have cut the bounce rate of the site down to 22%, with many users now staying 5 minutes or more. Economical, time-saving and efficient, the new improved website allows the Folk House office team to make the best use of their time.
